Trauma Therapy

Trauma

Trauma can take many forms—whether it’s a single overwhelming event, the cumulative impact over time, or the deep wounds of attachment trauma from early relationships. No matter the source, its effects can linger in the nervous system, shaping how you feel, think, and relate to the world.

I have a particular passion for the interrelationship between chronic pain and trauma, and chronic illness and trauma.

What to Expect in Trauma Therapy

Healing from trauma is a deeply personal process, and no single approach works for everyone. I tailor therapy to each individual, ensuring that the techniques we use align with your needs and feel safe and supportive. The goal is not to force painful memories to the surface but to gently process and integrate them in a way that fosters healing, resilience, and growth.

The following are some of the therapeutic approaches that may be incorporated into our work together:

  • Deep Brain Reorienting (DBR) – This approach works with the brainstem’s stored responses to trauma, addressing the deep, automatic survival patterns that can keep you stuck in distress. DBR is particularly effective for attachment trauma and overwhelming single-event experiences, allowing for gentle, organic healing without re-traumatisation.

  • Internal Family Systems (IFS) – This model helps you explore and understand the different “parts” of yourself—especially those that have developed as protective mechanisms in response to trauma. By developing a compassionate relationship with these parts, you can reduce internal conflict and experience greater emotional balance.

  • Mindfulness Therapy – Cultivating present-moment awareness helps regulate the nervous system, allowing you to respond to emotions with curiosity rather than avoidance. Mindfulness techniques support self-regulation, reduce distress, and help create a sense of internal safety.

  • Narrative Therapy – The stories we tell ourselves about our experiences shape how we see ourselves and the world. Narrative therapy helps you examine these stories, challenging unhelpful beliefs and fostering a renewed sense of identity and empowerment.

  • Grief and Loss Counselling – Trauma often involves loss—whether it is the loss of a loved one, a sense of safety, or the life you once knew. Grief counselling provides space to process these losses, honour your emotions, and find ways to carry your experiences while continuing to move forward.

What now?

If you have ever wondered whether your experiences might be considered trauma, you are not alone. Trauma is not just about what happened to you—it is also about how it has shaped the way you feel, think, and move through the world. If you find yourself struggling with emotions that feel overwhelming, patterns that seem impossible to change, or a sense that something is holding you back, therapy can help.

I offer a free phone consultation to provide a safe, compassionate space for you to share what is on your mind and explore whether therapy feels right for you. There is no pressure, no expectation—just a conversation to help you take the next step, whatever that may be.

If you are ready to reach out, I would love to connect.
